License Status

Insurance Continuing Education Hours Required

  • 24 hours are required biennially; including 3 hours of ethics
  • Workers Compensation Adjuster: attend 1 insurance department Workers Compensation seminar per renewal cycle
  • P/C Adjusters : CE credits are not required

State Specific Insurance Continuing Education Courses

  • All producers MUST earn 3 hours in ethics
  • Producers licensed for P/C have a one-time requirement to take a 3 hour course on the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)
  • A maximum of 6 hours related to insurance agency management may be taken for CE credit per renewal period.
  • An individual may not sell, solicit or negotiate LTC insurance unless the individual is licensed as an insurance producer for Life and Health insurance and completed an 8 hours one-time training course and a 4 hour follow-up training course every 24 months thereafter in order to continue to sell LTC policies. 

Insurance Continuing Education Renewal or Compliance Date for Licensees

  • The current compliance period ends March 31, 2009, future compliance periods begin April 1 of odd numbered years and end on March 31, two years later

  • Independent self-study courses or classroom

Monitor Requirements

  • Exams MUST BE monitored by a disinterested third party.
  • For online courses where a proctor is required, DOI has created the Continuing Education Attestation of Personal Responsibility Form. This form will require individuals to attest that they have not received outside assistance while completing the online course exam. This form must be sent to the provider within 20 days of completing the course.

Reporting to Your State

  • $1.60 per credit hour is required to report your credits to the state.
  • State Insurance completions are reported 2 times every business day. If course is completed after 2 PM PT, it will be reported the following business day.
  • CFP reports are sent on Friday at 2 PM PT to the CFP Board electronically.
  • You may also self-report your CFP completions to www.cfp.net

Insurance Continuing Education Carryover Hours & Course Repetition

  • Carryover of excess CE credit hours is not allowed.
  • Credit will not be given for courses taken more than once in a 2-year period.

Insurance Continuing Education Exemptions

  • Limited lines representatives/agents, including title insurance, travel accident & travel baggage insurance.
  • Newly licensed agents until after their first renewal or renewal eligibility has passed.
  • Non-residents exempt if in good standing in their resident state.
  • P/C Adjusters

Method to Certify Completion

  • For Most States you will be able to print your certificate of completion online once you have completed your exam.
  • We usually report to the State Department of Insurance or regulatory board by the next business day.
  • It may, however, take your State DOI or regulatory board up to 30 days to report your completion results on their systems.
  • As an added service, we can Rapidly Report all of your completed courses the same business day (per credit order) for only $25.

Nonresident

  • Initial LTC Requirement: A producer must  complete an initial eight (8) hour initial LTC training course approved as CE in OR complete an 8-hour NAIC Long-term care course from another state along with an additional 2-hour Vermont supplemental training.
  • On-going LTC Requirement: A 4-hour follow-up LTC course is required every 24 months.
