License Status

CT Insurance Continuing Education Hours Required

  • 24 hours (including 3-hours of ethicsor Law & Regulation): Of the total, a minimum of 6-credit hours are required for each line of authority held by the producer on the first day of each biennium.
    • Life/Health only- 6 Life/Health, 3 LRE, 15 Optional
    • Property/Casualty only – 6 P&C (3 hours of Flood required, one-time only), 3 LRE, 15 Optional
    • Life/Health and P&C dual License – 6 Life/Health, 6 P&C (3 hours of Flood required, one-time only), 3 LRE, 9 Optional

Connecticut State-Specific Insurance CE Certifications

  • Annuity Certification – Effective March 1st, 2022:– A producer who completes an annuity training course approved by the commissioner prior to the effective date of this regulation shall, within six (6) months after 3/01/2022, complete either:
    • A new four (4) CE credit training course approved by the commissioner after the effective date of this regulation; OR
    • An additional one-time one (1) CE credit training course approved by the commissioner and provided by the continuing education provider on appropriate sales practices, replacement and disclosure requirements under sections 38a-432a-1 to 38a-432a-8, inclusive, of the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies.

  • Long-Term Care Partnership: Before a producer can market, discuss or sell an Partnership-approved Long-Term Care policies in Connecticut, they must have completed the training requirements and be certified under the Partnership’s Certification Training program.
    • Required for both resident and non-resident producers who wish to market Partnership-approved policies. The training is a one-time requirement, no follow-up training is needed.

  • All Connecticut licensed resident insurance producers with Property/Casualty or Personal Lines authority must complete a one-time 3-credit NFIP Flood insurance course approved by the CID.

Final Exam Regulations

  • CE may be completed by classroom, independent self-study, and seminars courses to meet the renewal requirements.
  • All CT final exams are required to be taken as closed book.
  • To pass the final exam, the score must be 70% or higher.
  • Unlimited retakes can be utilized to reach the passing score.
  • Online & paper exams require a disinterested third party monitor while taking the final exam.
    • A disinterested third party defined as: a minimum age of 18 years and any person except for family members or individuals who have a financial interest in the success of the student taking the examination. Co-workers can proctor but must not be above or below the student’s line of supervision.
  • An Affidavit of Personal Responsibility/Exam Completion is required to be completed by you and your monitor then either fax or emailed to us before the CE can be reported to CID to your license.
    • This Affidavit of Personal Responsibility/Exam Completion must be sent to us completed before 15 days after the course completion date to be reported.

Reporting to Your State/Regulatory Authority

  • $1.50 per credit hour (CE) is required to report/file to the department of insurance using SBS.
  • State Insurance completions are reported 2 times every business day. If course is completed after 2 PM PT, it will be reported the following business day. (Affidavit must be received and processed prior to reporting the completed CT CE course)
  • As an added service, we can Rapidly Report your completed courses the same business day for $25 per CE course.
  • CFP reports are sent on Friday at 2 PM PT to the CFP Board electronically.
    • You may also self-report your CFP completions to www.cfp.net

Connecticut Insurance CE Carry-Over Hours & CE Course Repetition

  • 24 hours of excess CE credit hours may be carried over to the next reporting period.
  • Courses may not be taken more than once in each compliance period.

Method to Certify Completion:

  • The certificate of completion will be available to print/download once the CT affidavit is received and processed.
  • The DOI or regulatory authority can take up to 30 days to process your new completion results on their systems.

Connecticut Non-Resident Producer Requirements

  • CE is not required for most non-resident CT insurance producers, however, some state specific requirements can be required.
  • Long-Term Care Partnership: Before a producer can market, discuss or sell an Partnership-approved Long-Term Care policies in Connecticut, they must have completed the training requirements and be certified under the Partnership’s Certification Training program.

Connecticut Insurance Producer Exemptions

  • Non-residents of reciprocal states who have met the home state’s CE requirements.
  • Producers who only hold Surety Bail Bond license, limited lines of authority such as, Credit and Accident/Travel Baggage.
  • Casualty Adjusters.
